The legend

In a small town corner tavern, the story of Big Whiskey was born. Only coming in a few times a week, he'd belly up to the bar and say, “I’m only going to have one, so make it a big one.” He was the kind of man who always had the right thing to say at the right time, whether it was a joke, story or toast. For all we know, he could still be sitting in a tavern somewhere, captivating a crowd. To this day we believe that no matter who you are or where you’re from, we’ve all learned a lesson or two from our own Big Whiskey.

From the moment we opened our doors in downtown Springfield, Missouri in 2006, our founders knew how to build a loyal customer base. By offering top quality, creative food and drinks at the right price, we’ve built a sustainable customer base who come back time and again for our fun, laid-back atmosphere and our rockstar service. Today the emerging food franchise has grown to fourteen locations in four states with several more in the queue.

Complete Training

Comprehensive training, seated and hands-on, is held at both a corporate location and on-site at your restaurant to ensure you and your staff are fully ready before your grand opening. You will continue to receive support throughout the opening and will be assigned a New Store Coordinator, a corporate trainer who aids in tying up loose ends to make certain your store meets our high quality standards before guests enter the building.

How much does a restaurant franchise cost in liquid cash?

Typically we recommend 20% of the total project cost. Project cost can range from $700K to $3M depending on land cost own vs leasing etc. $150K minimum $250K is best.

Do you have a lender to work with?

Yes, OakStar is currently our preferred SBA lender

What does a restaurant franchise build-out cost?

Costs range from $600K to $3M depending on land cost to own vs leasing etc.

Do you have a real estate agent/company to help find a location?

We do not but we can help locate a commercial realtor in your area. 

How much property is needed for a ground up location?

Varies depending on local parking requirements. Typically 1.1 to 1.5 acres 

What does the franchise fee cover?

The franchise fee covers our initial site and construction visits. It also covers the cost of trainers during management training.

What is the training process?

We require all managers to go through training at (at least) one of our corporate locations. Upon completion of your store, prior to opening, there is extensive on-site training for all areas of the restaurant.

Do I have to be a hands-on owner?

No. While we prefer an owner/operator, a properly incentivized manager can perform just as well.

What does the marketing fee go towards and what do I get out of it?

1% national marketing fee goes towards group projects, asset development, support and expert marketing guidance. It also covers some marketing in your local market.

What technology does corporate provide to the franchisee for ongoing support after opening?

SOCI, Toast, Shiftnotes, OLO, Paytronix and DineEngine App Support.

What do the royalties cover?

Your royalties cover the cost of support staff for the franchisees, brand and menu development and ongoing support. We conduct quarterly reviews and training verifications at no additional cost to the franchisee as long as they are in compliance.

What are royalties based on gross or net sales.

Net sales + service charges (18%grat)+ excess of 2% discounted sales
